Recently, the team led by Prof. Chen Xiang and Prof. Peng Cong from the Department of Dermatology, Xiangya Hospital Central South University, Hunan Key Laboratory of Skin Cancer and Psoriasis, Hunan Engineering Research Center of Skin Health and Disease and Xiangya Clinical Research Center for Cancer Immunotherapy, published a paper entitled “Pyroptosis: mechanisms and diseases” inSignal Transduction and Targeted Therapy(a Q1 top journal recognized by the National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences, IF=38.12), which won the 2022 STTT Annual Best Paper Award. Based on the statistics from its own website and Web of Science concerning the paper quality, impact and citation, STTT would select and award the best 10 papers published in the journal in the past year, which are widely representative and highly objective. Among them, this paper ranked first in 2022.
According to the latest data released by Clarivate Analytics, the paper has been cited more than 270 times since its publication in March 2021, with an Altmetric score of 21, and has been selected as an ESI highly cited and hot paper in the discipline. The paper summarizes the core molecular regulatory network of Pyroptosis from a new perspective, systematically describes the development of Pyroptosis, its molecular characteristics and its relations with different diseases, and looks forward to the prospect of intervention in related diseases by regulating Pyroptosis, all of which shed light on future drug development. Yu Pi, a doctoral candidate from Department of Dermatology, is the only first author of the paper, with Prof. Chen Xiang and Prof. Peng Cong being the co-corresponding authors.

He is also a distinguished professor of Sheng-hua Scholar in Central South University and the deputy director of Hunan Key Laboratory of Skin Cancer and Psoriasis. Prof. Peng Cong has been working on the metabolic regulation of major skin diseases (psoriasis and melanoma), molecular mechanisms and small molecule inhibitor screening, and has published more than 40 papers as the first/corresponding author on reputable journals includingSig Trans Tar Ther,Nature Communs,PNAS,Molecular Therapy,J Exp Clin Cancer Res,Theranostics,Br J Dermatol,Pharmacol Res,Clinical Immunology, andJ Invest Dermatolin the past 3 years. The team will further devote themselves to basic and clinical translational research on major skin diseases and promote the development of the Double World-Class discipline.
