Research Results of Xiangya Student Introduced on Yale Website

On March 9, a news article titled “Machine Learning Helps Doctors Diagnose Severity of Brain Tumors” was published on the website of Yale School of Medicine, introducing the research result of a collaborative work of Dr. Murat Günel, Chair of Neurosurgery at Yale School of Medicine and Dr. Xuejun Li of the Neurosurgery Department at Xiangya Hospital, Central South University. Hang Cao, a medical student in the 8-year program of Xiangya Hospital under the supervision of Dr. Xuejun Li and currently doing a 2-year research exchange at Yale in Dr. Günel’s team, is the first author of the research paper titled “A quantitative model based on clinically relevant MRI features differentiates lower grade gliomas and glioblastoma” published inEuropean Radiology.

According to Dr. Xuejun Li, his team published an original article titled “Gliosarcoma: A Clinical and Radiological Analysis of 48 Cases” inEuropean Radiologyback in January 2019, which laid the foundation of this new study.

Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University has established partnerships with a number of renowned medical schools in the US since 2012 including Yale, Cornell, Emory, Univ. of Michigan, Univ. of Texas, etc., and sponsors around 60 medical students every year to these universities for clinical and research exchange. Many of those students have published research articles in high-impact journals such asNature Communications.
