Inheriting Xiangya Spirit to Build the Dream of Medicine Together — The 2024 Xiangya Overseas Alumni Association - Yale-China Association Scholarship Award Ceremony Held Successfully ​

On the afternoon of December 6, during the 110th Anniversary of Xiangya MedicalEducation of Central South University, the 2024 Xiangya Overseas Alumni Association - Yale-China Association Scholarship Award Ceremony was held successfully in the Xiaoqian Hall of Yuanding Building, East Campus, Xiangya School of Medicine. Guests attended the ceremony include Larry Bates, Board Chair of the Yale-China Association, John Frisbie, President of Yale-China Association, Liao Wei, President of the Xiangya Overseas Alumni Association, Wang Liang, Board Chair of the Xiangya Overseas Alumni Association, along with representatives from the Yale-China Association and Xiangya Overseas Alumni Association. Other attendees included Wu Minghua, Executive Vice Dean of Xiangya School of Medicine, Li Xuejun, Vice Dean of Xiangya School of Medicine, and all the award-winning students. The ceremony was hosted by Wu Di, Director of the Health Projects of the Yale-China Association.

Liao Wei, President of the Xiangya Overseas Alumni Association, warmly welcomed the guests and award-winning students. Ms.Wu reviewed the nine-year development history of the Xiangya Overseas Alumni Association - Yale-China Association Scholarship Program and highlighted that Xiangya alumni worldwide have been continuing to uphold their medical mission and social responsibility, embodying the spirit of Xiangya through practical actions. Ms.Wu expressed her hopes that the award-winning students would embrace their sense of responsibility, pursue excellence, and carry forward the glory and dreams of Xiangya, exploring the world through academic research and benefiting society through practical endeavors.

Wu Minghua, Executive Vice Dean of Xiangya School of Medicine, traced the precious history of Xiangya Medical Education and pointed out that during the stormy 110 years of development, Xiangya has cultivated numerous outstanding alumni. She acknowledged that the continued support and selfless dedication of the Xiangya Overseas Alumni Association and the Yale-China Association have injected new vitality into the flourishing development of Xiangya Medical Education. She emphasized that Xiangya School of Medicine will continue to gather wisdom from all sides through exchanges and cooperation, nurture outstanding medical talents, advance medical research, and tirelessly strive toward new heights in medical education.

“Yale-China Association has always been committed to fosteringChina-American educational and healthcare exchanges and cooperation. Our cooperation with Xiangya School of Medicine has a long and fruitful history,” stated John Frisbie, President of the Yale-China Association. Mr. Frisbie highly praised the academic excellence and moral integrity of Xiangya students. He expressed his hopes for continued deepening cooperation between the two institutions to jointly promote the prosperity and development of medical education.

Representative of the 2024 award-winning students, Wang Linjie, and a representative from previous awardees, Wang Feiyang, delivered speeches. They expressed their commitment to continuous self-reflection, the pursuit of knowledge, and ongoing progress. They pledged to inherit the cultural spirit of Xiangya from its 110-year history, showcase the brilliance of Xiangya youth, and navigate the vast ocean of medicine with determination to become compassionate and dedicated “great doctors.”

During the ceremony, Wang Liang, Board Chair of the Xiangya Overseas Alumni Association, presented certificates to the 63 award-winning students of the 2024 academic year.

The Xiangya Overseas Alumni Association - Yale-China Association Scholarship Program was established in 2015 with a fund of approximately 520,000 USD raised by the Xiangya Overseas Alumni Association. The program supports the development of medical education at Central South University and, to date, has funded 441 medical students from Xiangya School of Medicine.
