Xiangya School of Medicine Achieves Grand Slam at the Third (2024) Central South University “Alumni Cup” Football Championship

From June 21 to 22, the Third (2024) Central South University "Alumni Cup" Football Championship and the 110th Anniversary Celebration of Xiangya Medical Education took place in Changsha. Alumni football teams from across the country gathered at their alma mater, while teams from Xiangya School of Medicine and its affiliated hospitals were invited to participate. A total of 21 teams competed fiercely on Central South University's campuses. The Xiangya School of Medicine faculty team achieved a "Grand Slam", winning the "New Campus Group Championship", "Outstanding Organization Award", "Top Scorer Award", and "Special Thanks Award". President Li Jiancheng and alumnus Wei Huacheng presented the championship trophy to the Xiangya team, with Chang Shi, Party Secretary of Xiangya School of Medicine, and Vice Dean Liu Hong leading the team members in receiving their awards.

On the morning of June 21, the event's kickoff meeting was held in the second conference room on the eighth floor of Xiaoqian Building, Xiangya School of Medicine. Attendees included Wei Huacheng, Vice President of the Central South University Alumni Association and Executive Director of the Alumni Entrepreneurs Association, alumnus He Qinghua, Executive Vice President of the China Smoking Control Association and former first-level inspector of the Disease Control Bureau of the National Health Commission, Yan Min, Deputy Secretary-General of the Alumni Association, Gao Siyao, Deputy Director of the Sports Department, as well as team leaders and captains of each participating team. Wu Minghua, Executive Vice Dean of Xiangya School of Medicine, introduced the history of Xiangya Medical Education to the alumni.

On June 22, the Xiangya School of Medicine faculty team secured the New Campus Group Championship with a perfect record after three intense matches. The team consisted of active faculty from Xiangya School of Medicine, the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Xiangya School of Public Health, Xiangya School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the School of Life Sciences, along with several Xiangya alumni. The team was guided by Liu Hong, Vice Dean and Party Committee member of Xiangya School of Medicine, led by Wang Yun, Party organizer of Xiangya School of Medicine, and captained by Li Wei from the School of Basic Medical Sciences. Despite being newly formed, the team united for Xiangya, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and collaboration, and showcasing the indomitable and pioneering spirit of Xiangya School of Medicine to alumni nationwide.

The year 2024 marks the 110th anniversary of Xiangya Medical Education. To unite the strength of Central South University, gather alumni from around the world, plan new developments, and create a magnificent blueprint for the future, the Central South University Alumni Football Alliance responded to the call of alumni. With the support of the Central South University Alumni Association and the Sports Department, the football championship was held under the theme "Green Fields at Central South University, Healthy China". Established in May 2019, the Central South University Alumni Football Alliance upholds the university’s motto of "Create Knowledge and Serve Society," striving to promote the spirit of pragmatism and responsibility among Central South University alumni, and providing a national platform for alumni to express their sentiments, promote exchanges, and inherit Central South University culture.
