On the afternoon of June 23, the pre-departure exchange meeting for the 2026 Central South University (CSU) Sinocare Overseas Study Fund Program was held at the campus of Sinocare Inc. Li Xinyi, Chairperson of the Sinocare Diabetes Public Welfare Foundation, Chen Fang, Project Manager, Li Xuejun, Vice Dean of Xiangya School of Medicine, and Luo Pei, Deputy Director of the Fundraising & Development Department of the CSU Education Foundation attended the meeting. Participants included students selected under the program to pursue MD+PhD dual degrees at the University of Michigan in 2026, as well as students from the 8-Year Medical Joint Training Program. The meeting was presided over by Manager Chen Fang.

During the exchange session, Vice Dean Li Xuejun shared expectations for the students embarking on overseas studies. First, he urged them to sustain enthusiasm for knowledge, uphold a rigorous and enterprising academic mindset, and keep striving to scale new heights in medical science. Second, he encouraged them to embrace an open mind, proactively engage in cross-cultural academic exchanges, fully absorb high-quality overseas educational resources, take the initiative to tell authentic stories about China and Xiangya to the world, and act as envoys for China-U.S. cultural communication. Third, he reminded the students to maintain close ties with their alma mater, stay modest yet confident while abroad, treat local cultural differences with full respect, strengthen safety awareness, and integrate and translate overseas learning and research outcomes with innovative thinking.

Chairperson Li Xinyi reviewed the talent cultivation achievements since the launch of the Sinocare Overseas Study Fund and shared Sinocare’s innovative advances in AI-enabled healthcare. She specially noted that “artificial intelligence will be integrated into every academic discipline.” Moving forward, Sinocare will continue to deepen its research in monitoring and care services for diabetes and its complications, and welcomes more medical professionals to join the team. She encouraged the students to make the most of their overseas training opportunities to observe and reflect broadly, explore diverse possibilities through cross-cultural perspectives, and forge ahead to become leading medical scientists of the future.

Student representatives Hu Hongkun and Liu Yunyi shared their reflections in turn. They pledged to uphold Xiangya’s school motto:Public-spirited, courageous, diligent and prudent; sincere, compassionate, modest and incorruptible; seeking truth and precision, pursuing thoroughness and dedication. They vowed to pursue lifelong learning and in-depth research, live up to the expectations of the university and the foundation, and dedicate themselves to addressing global medical challenges in the future.

Prior to the meeting, the students toured Sinocare’s corporate exhibition hall and wellness clinic, gaining first-hand insight into the company’s products and innovative practices in diabetes and chronic disease monitoring, and testing a range of cutting-edge glucose monitoring devices. During the tour, Li Shaobo, Founder and Chairman of Sinocare and an alumnus of Central South University, talked with the students. He introduced the outstanding research and learning environment at the University of Michigan, and encouraged the students to cherish this precious opportunity to pursue an MD+PhD dual degree overseas, hone their capabilities on a broader academic platform, and lay a solid foundation for their careers as physician-scientists.

The CSU Sinocare Overseas Study Fund was established through donations from alumnus Mr. Li Shaobo via the Sinocare Diabetes Public Welfare Foundation, with total donations of 19.9 million yuan across two phases. The fund specifically supports students of the University’s 8-Year Clinical Medicine Program to pursue MD+PhD dual degrees at the University of Michigan, cultivating future physician-scientists equipped with robust clinical capabilities and cutting-edge research visions. Since its launch, six cohorts comprising a total of 16 students have been selected under the program, which serves as a key platform for the school to deepen university-enterprise collaboration and advance the internationalization of medical education.
