As spring brings warm breezes and blooming vitality, the 116th International Women’s Day arrives. To enrich the spare-time life of faculty members, promote the spirit of Lei Feng in the new era, and strengthen the cohesion of the faculty team, the Faculty and Staff Union of Xiangya School of Medicine organized a special activity featuring a study tour at the Lei Feng Memorial Hall and a handmade health incense hammer experience. More than 40 participants, including Zhu Liyong, Party Secretary of Xiangya School of Medicine, Wu Minghua, Executive Vice Dean, and other school leaders and faculty members, attended the event to embrace the inheritance of red spirit and the charm of intangible cultural heritage in the beautiful spring season.
On the morning of March 6, the tree-surrounded Lei Feng Memorial Hall presented a solemn and serene atmosphere. Under the guidance of professional interpreters, the faculty visited the memorial hall and appreciated precious cultural relics on display while listening carefully to the touching stories behind them. The exhibits, including cotton wadding and mosquito nets used by three generations of Lei Feng’s family, his books, diaries, labor tools and daily clothes, silently embodied Lei Feng’s noble virtues of diligence, frugality and selfless dedication, deeply touching every participant.
The teachers paused frequently to observe the exhibits and exchange ideas, gaining an in-depth understanding of the contemporary connotation of the Spirit of Lei Feng. All participants expressed their willingness to integrate the Spirit of Lei Feng into daily work and life, and practice dedication and responsibility on their own posts.
In the afternoon, the faculty gathered in the handmade experience classroom to learn about the cultural heritage and health-preserving effects of traditional health incense hammers, gaining a more intuitive and comprehensive understanding of intangible cultural heritage. Afterwards, all teachers made exclusive health incense hammers by hand. The activity site was filled with a warm and joyful atmosphere. Through hands-on practice, the faculty experienced the exquisite craftsmanship of intangible cultural heritage, while gaining physical and mental relaxation and a sense of achievement.
Integrating patriotic education with intangible cultural heritage experience, this activity allowed faculty members to relax and cultivate their sentiments in the festive season, inherit the Spirit of Lei Feng, and perceive the unique charm of traditional intangible cultural culture. It further enhanced the cohesion and centripetal force of the faculty team. All teachers stated that they would devote themselves to the work of the new semester with fuller enthusiasm and a more vigorous attitude, and make every effort to help Xiangya School of Medicine achieve the development goals of the 15th Five-Year Plan.
