Professor Lü Ben Receives the Tenth “Shulan Medical Young Scientist Award”

On December 9, 2023, the highly anticipated tenth "Shulan Medical Award" ceremony kicked off in Zhengzhou, marking a significant event in the medical community. The awards were announced during the ceremony, with Professor Lü Ben, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Xiangya Second Hospital, as well as Vice Dean of Xiangya School of Medicine, being honored with the prestigious "Shulan Medical Young Scientist Award". Notable figures such as Academician Qiao Jie, Professor Gao Yue, and Professor He Jianxing also received the "Shulan Medical Award". The ceremony, attended by distinguished guests and luminaries in the medical field, was graced by the presence of Academician Chen Zhu, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress for the twelfth and thirteenth sessions, Academician Zheng Shusen, Chairman of the Shulan Fund, and Academician Li Lanjuan. They presided over the event, presenting certificates, trophies, and plaques to the deserving awardees.

The ceremony, led by Academician Liu Liang, saw the attendance of 24 academicians, including Zhang Boli, Zheng Shusen, Li Lanjuan, Wei Yuquan, Chen Xiangmei, Chen Zhinan, Fu Xiaobing, Shang Yongfeng, Zhan Qimin, Zhang Zhiyuan, Yan Xiyun, Tan Weihong, Li Peng, Qiao Jie, Wang Junzhi, Dong Erdan, Shang Hong, Dou Kefeng, Xu Binghe, Jiang Baoguo, Teng Gaojun, and Tang Peifu. Over 1,000 guests from various sectors, including government officials, academic leaders, and representatives from Shulan Medical Group and affiliated hospitals, added to the grandeur of the occasion.

Established by Zhejiang University Education Foundation's Shusen·Lanjuan Academic Talent Fund, the Shulan Medical Award aims to foster medical education, support emerging talents, and advance medical science and technology in China. It aspires to elevate China's medical and health industry to international prominence. The award recognizes outstanding scientific and technological talents in the medical and health field who have achieved original breakthroughs with proven practical effectiveness. To date, the Shulan Fund has successfully organized ten rounds of the Shulan Medical Award evaluation, attracting 1,547 experts, including 779 academicians, and nominating 868 individuals. The initiative has produced 23 Shulan Medical Award winners, 103 Shulan Medical Young Scientist Award winners, and 191 Shulan Medical Award Nominee Award winners, including academicians, medical experts, and key contributors in the national medical field.

Professor Lü Ben, holding dual Ph.D. degrees in Clinical Medicine and Life Science, is a Senior Researcher and Associate Chief Physician. Recognized with the National Distinguished Youth Fund, the inaugural "Scientific Exploration Award" in the medical field, and the China Youth Science and Technology Award, Lü Ben currently holds key leadership roles, including Director of the Administration Department of Central South University Hospital, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Xiangya Second Hospital, and Vice Dean of Xiangya School of Medicine. His extensive career encompasses both groundbreaking basic research and frontline clinical work in hematology and critical illnesses. Notably, he has achieved a series of original breakthroughs in research areas such as critical coagulation diseases and has published numerous articles as a corresponding author in prestigious journals like Science, Nature, and Immunity. Additionally, Lü Ben serves as a member of the Medical Science Expert Consultation Committee of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, a member of the Hematology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, a member of the Intensive Care Medicine Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and the President of the Intensive Care Medicine Branch of the Hunan Medical Association.
