From May 23 to 26, Tao Lijian, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee of Central South University and President of Xiangya School of Medicine, led a delegation to visit Kagoshima University and Ikeda Hospital of Kanoya for negotiation over the cooperation between the two universities and hospitals and achieved a number of results. Zhang Xin, Secretary of Party Committee of Xiangya Hospital; Wu Xiaochuang, Vice President of Xiangya School of Medicine; and Xiao Xiangcheng, Deputy Director of the Department of Nephrology participated in the visit as delegates.

On the morning of May 24, Kagoshima University hanged the national flag of China on the flagpole in front of its office building to welcome the delegation of Central South University with courtesy. Staff members of Kagoshima University including President Akira Sano, Vice President Masanori Baba, Director Keiko Unedaya of International Student Center, Prof. Tomoyuki Kuwaki and Prof. Toshiro Takezaki of Kagoshima University Faculty of Medicine, and Prof. Gang Wang of Faculty of Engineering Kagoshima University greeted the delegation. The two sides conducted an in-depth discussion and an exchange and reached a consensus in student exchange, faculty communication, research cooperation, and joint hosting of international conferences, etc.

Kagoshima University is a national university located in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. Established in 1949, Kagoshima University has established Faculty of Law, Economics and the Humanities, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Fisheries, and Joint Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and it is particularly famous for its specialty in medical care and veterinary medicine. It has three affiliated hospitals. In 2006, Central South University signed a formal exchange agreement with Kagoshima University.
During the visit, the two sides decided to enact four terms of the intention of further cooperation based on the signed exchange agreement. The first term is to launch the short-term exchange for undergraduate students. The second one is Central South University’s sending selected medical students to study in the Ph.D. program at Kagoshima University. The third one is to jointly host international medical academic conferences. The fourth one is to carry out a short-term exchange of residents. At the meeting, Deputy Secretary Tao Lijian said that Central South University and Kagoshima University established a sound platform for academic exchange and training at the beginning of the 1990s and many experts of Xiangya School of Medicine studied and researched at Kagoshima University. The two sides can organize more flexible and diverse joint training for undergraduate and postgraduate students and residents, research cooperation, and exchange to boost mutual development.
On May 25, the delegation visited Ikeda Hospital of Kanoya and attended the 50th-anniversary celebration of its nursing home.

Ikeda Hospital is located in Kanoya City and featured by blood purification and combination of medical and health care. It has established departments including the Department of Orthopedics, Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Department of Respiratory Endoscopy, and Department of Gastroenterology. After 60 years of development, the hospital has become a noted private hospital in Southern Japan for its distinctive characteristics, precision management, sophisticated technologies, and feature of "large specialties, and small integration". Since 1992, the Department of Nephrology of Xiangya Hospital has sent a large number of physicians to Ikeda Hospital for research and study. Ikeda Toru, the Chair of the Board of Ikeda Hospital, has paid many visits to Xiangya Hospital and established mutual friendship with it. He and his wife, as well as the staff members of the hospital, warmly welcomed the delegation. The delegation carried out a field survey and an in-depth discussion on the hospital’s blood purification, operation management, nursing training, the pattern combining medical and health care, etc. During this visit, the two sides agreed on Xiangya Hospital’s plan of continuing to send its medical workers to Ikeda Hospital for research and study, setting the groundwork for their in-depth cooperation on the development of new medical technologies and academic research.
The visit of the delegation of Central South University has widened the channel of its external exchange in such fields as medical education, medical research cooperation, and medical management, explored a new space for its international medical exchange, and played a positive role in advancing its "Double First-Class" construction.
