Prof. Scagliotti, Former President of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, Visits Second Xiangya Hospital

On the morning of November 27, Professor Giorgio V. Scagliotti, a full-time professor of Oncology at the University of Torino, Italy, director of the Oncology Department at San Luigi Hospital, and former president of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC), visited Second Xiangya Hospital at the invitation of the “Chinese Anti-Cancer Association Guidelines - Lung Cancer Master Academic Exchange Program.” This visit is one of the eight nationwide inter-hospital exchange activities under this program.

Prof. Scagliotti, who was accompanied by Director Liu Yu from the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, first visited the History Museum and Clinical Skills Center of the hospital. Yang Xiaoxiao from the International Cooperation and Exchange Office and Lin Minjie, Associate Researcher from the Clinical Skills Center, introduced to Prof. Scagliotti the history of the hospital and the significant achievements in clinical, scientific research, and medical education since its establishment, as well as the work carried out by the hospital in clinical skills training, which aroused Prof. Scagliotti's great interest.

Subsequently, Prof. Scagliotti took part in an insightful symposium with the doctors from the Oncology Center. At the beginning, Vice President Xiao Yang extended a warm welcome to Prof. Scagliotti and his team on behalf of Second Xiangya Hospital and introduced the remarkable progress of the hospital in recent years. Dr. Wu Yuanqiang from the Oncology Center then presented a detailed introduction of the center’s achievements in medical treatment, scientific research, teaching, management and other aspects to Prof. Scagliotti. During the symposium, doctors from the Oncology Center held an in-depth discussion and friendly exchange with Prof. Scagliotti on the focal areas and challenges of tumor treatment.

In addition to academic exchanges, Prof. Scagliotti highly affirmed the rapid development of our Oncology Center in all aspects, and expressed his expectation for the opportunity to have more in-depth scientific and clinical research cooperation with the Oncology Center. The atmosphere of the meeting was very friendly and warm. At the end of the meeting, Deputy Director Gao Yawen, on behalf of Oncology Center, once again extended gratitude to Prof. Scagliotti for his visit and expressed confidence in the potential future cooperation between Oncology Center and Prof. Scagliotti.

In recent years, the Oncology Center has experienced steady growth. It has actively engaged in exchanges with leading medical experts worldwide, fostered international collaborations and participated in international multi-center clinical research, demonstrating the strength and prowess of the Oncology Center on the global stage.
