Wu Minghua Leads Delegation to Sun Yat-sen University School of Medicine for Research and Exchange

On March 27th, Wu Minghua, the Executive Vice Dean of Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University, led a delegation to theHealth Science Center, Sun Yat-sen Universityfor research and exchange. They were warmly received by Long Bo, the Executive Vice Director of the Health Science Center, Sun Yat-sen University and Director of the Comprehensive Administration Department, along with other departmental leaders. During the meeting, Long Bo provided an overview of the Health Science Center, Sun Yat-sen University,tracing its historical development along with that of Zhongshan School of Medicine, and outlined the initiatives undertaken in reforming the eight-year medical education and talent cultivation model. Long Bo highlighted the enduring reputation of "South Xiangya", emphasizing the significant contributions of both Xiangya and Zhongshan School of Medicinein pioneering, inheriting, and innovating Western medical education. She expressed hopes for strengthened communication and cooperation between these two institutions, under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, to seize new opportunities and continue deepening comprehensive reforms in line with the Healthy China strategy.

During the meeting, participants engaged in extensive discussions on various aspects of medical education and training, including talent cultivation, excellence in physician training, building high-level faculty teams, interdisciplinary collaboration, integrating basic and clinical disciplines, international exchanges and cooperation, and cultural development. She acknowledged the rich history and strengths of theMedicine of Sun Yat-sen University, highlighting its accumulation of high-quality medical resources and numerous achievements in disciplines construction, scientific research, physician training, international education, and laboratory development. Wu Minghua noted the significance of 2024 as the 110th anniversary of Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University, and the 100th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen University, viewing it as a new starting point for both institutions. As century-old institutions serving the local community and society, she expressed hope for continued collaboration in the new era, focusing on serving the Healthy China strategy and national education goals. They should accelerate the cultivation of urgently needed and scarce talents to better serve public health and the development of the healthcare industry, providing strong support for safeguarding public health.

Prior to the meeting, Wu Minghua and her delegation toured the South Campus of Sun Yat-sen University, the Medical Museum at the North Campus, the Center for Neuroscience Research, and the Laboratory Animal Center. The century-old buildings adorned with red walls and green tiles at the South Campus, along with the Medical Museum, served as a testament to the passage of time and the preservation of culture. Throughout the visit, there was extensive dialogue and exploration on topics including integrated research bridging basic and clinical disciplines, management of the Laboratory Animal Center, and cultural development.

Following the meeting, Wu Minghua and her delegation paid a visit to the Xiangya Guangdong Alumni Association, where they held discussions with key members of the association. The main focus was on sharing plans for the 110th anniversary celebrations of Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University, and welcoming input from alumni regarding the advancement of the university's "Double First-Class" initiative and the development of the medical school. Alumni expressed unanimous support, emphasizing the pivotal role of their alma mater in their personal and professional growth. They pledged enthusiastic backing for the 110th anniversary events, intending to serve as a vital link between the alma mater and its alumni community, and to contribute to the continued excellence of medical education at the university.

After the discussions, Wu Minghua and her delegation visited alumni enterprises such as Guangzhou YiBo Information Technology Co., Ltd and Guangzhou Koncen BioScience Co., Ltd., to gain insights into talent needs, joint research initiatives, and talent cultivation.
