From June 5th to 8th, the Academic Symposium on Innovative Development of Experimental Animal Resources and Models and the Inaugural Meeting of the Expert Database for Experimental Animal Resource Identification and Evaluation took place in Changsha, Hunan. This event was co-organized by the Experimental Animal Resource Identification and Evaluation Working Committee of the Chinese Association for Laboratory Animal Sciences and the Animal Model Committee for Human Diseases of the Hunan Pathophysiology Society, and hosted by Central South University. The theme of the conference was "Enriching and Innovating Experimental Animal Resources to Promote Development and Application."
Conference Highlights
The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Liu Yunbo, Executive Director of the Chinese Association for Laboratory Animal Sciences and Chairman of the Experimental Animal Resource Identification and Evaluation Working Committee. Professor Wu Minghua, Executive Vice Dean of Xiangya School of Medicine of Central South University, gave the welcome address. Speeches were delivered by Professor Qin Chuan, a member of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences; Director Chang Wei from the Laboratory Animal Management Office of the Hunan Provincial Department of Science and Technology; and Professor Wang Kangkai, President of the Hunan Pathophysiology Society. Leaders from Xiangya School of Medicine also attended the event.

Prominent experts shared their latest research and experiences, including Academician Ji Weizhi of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the European Academy of Sciences; Professor Qin Chuan from Peking Union Medical College; Professors Li Xiaojiang and Li Shihua from Jinan University; Professor Li Jiada, Dean of the School of Life Sciences at Central South University; Professor Wei Hongjiang, Vice President of Yunnan Agricultural University; Researcher Zhao Jianguo from the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Professor Wang Wei from the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University; Researcher He Zhengming from the Institute of Laboratory Animal Resources at the National Institutes for Food and Drug Control; Researcher Xia Changyou from the Harbin Veterinary Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences; and Researcher Liu Yunbo from the Institute of Medical Experimental Animals at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.

On June 5th, a science outreach event was held at Xiangya School of Medicine, where Professor Du Xiaoyan from Capital Medical University and Researcher Gao Ran from the Institute of Medical Experimental Animals at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences presented engaging and informative sessions on experimental animal science to the students.
A training session for experts in the Expert Database for Experimental Animal Resource Identification and Evaluation was also conducted, covering procedures, relevant documents, and key points for on-site identification. Over 70 experts attended the training, which saw active discussions and participation.
A mid-term progress meeting for the National Key R&D Program project "Research and Demonstration of Key Technologies to Enhance the Innovation Capability of the National Experimental Animal Resource Bank" was also held, where experts reported on the project's progress and conducted evaluations.
On the afternoon of June 7th, the editorial board of the textbook "Animal Models and Diseases" held a meeting to further systematize and standardize teaching and research in the field of experimental animals.
The symposium attracted nearly 200 experts, scholars, technical personnel, and enterprise representatives from across the country. As part of the series of academic activities marking the 110th anniversary of Xiangya School of Medicine, this symposium not only united colleagues in the field of experimental animals and infused new vitality into research and development but also served as a significant opportunity for the development of experimental animal science at Central South University. It contributed to expanding cooperation, enhancing research levels, and promoting the advancement of experimental animal science at our institution.
