On the morning of May 17, the Xiangya School of Medicine Haikou Research Institute, jointly built by Central South University and Haikou Municipal People’s Government, was officially inaugurated at Haikou People’s Hospital. This marks a key initiative of the university to fully implement the Healthy China Strategy and proactively serve the overall development of Hainan Free Trade Port, ushering in a new phase of deeper and higher-level integrated cooperation between the two sides.

Haikou is now forging ahead with the construction of the core leading zone of the free trade port, generating an increasingly urgent demand for high-standard medical services and medical innovation. Drawing on Xiangya’s strengths in disciplines, talent pool and scientific research, the research institute will carry out comprehensive and in-depth cooperation through close university-local coordination, covering medical talent training, disciplinary development, medical research and the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements. The Haikou Municipal Government will offer all-round policy support and supporting guarantees for the institute’s development. Leveraging the opening-up policies of the free trade port, the city will facilitate the gathering and transformation of medical resources and innovative elements within the core leading zone, so that the fruits of high-quality development can better benefit local residents.

Central South University has partnered with Haikou Municipal People’s Hospital since 2003, delivering all-round and multi-tiered support in clinical diagnosis and treatment technologies, hospital administration, talent cultivation and disciplinary development, which has greatly elevated the hospital’s overall medical capacity and management proficiency. Against this solid foundation, the launch of the Xiangya School of Medicine Haikou Research Institute will further advance cooperation in clinical research and technology translation, and continuously contribute Xiangya’s expertise and strength to the development of Hainan Free Trade Port and the building of a regional medical innovation highland.
