On April 24, the 2026 China-US Youth Health Dialogue (Changsha Session) was held at Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University. Shen Xiaoming, Secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, attended the event and delivered an address.

On behalf of Hunan Province, Secretary Shen extended a warm welcome to young medical professionals from China and the United States, as well as all guests committed to advancing Sino-US medical exchanges. He noted that every country’s medical and healthcare system serves its people, and medical workers, as core practitioners of such systems, always regard healing the wounded and rescuing the dying as their sacred mission.
“Doctors hold nationalities, yet medicine knows no borders,” he stated. Decades of practice have proven that international medical cooperation is the fundamental path to defeating diseases and safeguarding humanity’s health. He expressed hopes that participants would learn from one another through academic exchanges, pursue joint collaboration, and work hand in hand to tackle diseases threatening human well-being. Hunan stands ready to open its doors to the global medical community and welcomes young medical professionals worldwide to deepen exchanges and cooperation in the province.

Keynote Speech by Mark S. Humayun
Jiang Difei, a provincial leading official, and An Shi, Party Secretary of Central South University, were present at the opening ceremony. Shen Xin, Vice President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries; Li Jiancheng, President of Central South University; and Madeleine Daquila, representative of young American physicians, delivered respective addresses.
Delivering the welcome speech on behalf of the university, President Li Jiancheng noted that official and non-governmental exchanges between China and the United States have run through the century-long development of Xiangya Medicine. Young people represent the hope of medical development, the backbone of healthcare undertakings, and a vital bridge for people-to-people friendship between China and the US. Central South University will further expand cooperation with American medical schools and healthcare institutions, support two-way exchanges of young physicians and scientists, and contribute to building a global community of health for all.
During the dialogue, Professor Mark S. Humayun, Member of both the US National Academy of Medicine and National Academy of Engineering and Dean of the USC Institute for Biomedical Therapeutics, gave a keynote speech. Physicians, medical students and representatives from health sectors of China and the US held in-depth exchanges covering cutting-edge medical advances, clinical practice and talent training.

During their stay in Hunan, young medical participants from both countries took part in a series of activities including cultural exchange sessions, clinical observation tours, industrial inspections and academic seminars. They experienced Huxiang culture and the unique strengths of traditional Chinese medicine, and visited innovative healthcare industrial projects across Hunan.
The event has built a high-level academic exchange platform for young Chinese and American medical talents, further deepening people-to-people friendly cooperation between the two countries in the health sector.
