The opening ceremony of the 9th World Photography Congress, co-hosted by the Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP), China Art Photographers Society, Foreign Affairs Office of Hunan Provincial People’s Government and Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, was held in Changsha on August 23. Li Zhihong, Vice President of Central South University, and Li Xuejun, Vice Dean of Xiangya School of Medicine, were invited to attend the event.

During the congress, the International Medical Photographers Club (IMPC) donated a collection of precious photographic works to Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University. Created by medical practitioners worldwide, these visual artworks embody a perfect integration of artistic aesthetics and professional dedication. They will serve as a vital medium for Xiangya to nurture medical students’ humanistic literacy and professional ethics.

All donated works are original creations by IMPC members. At the donation ceremony, Sefa Ulukan, Founding Chair of IMPC, introduced that IMPC is the first specialized medical photography association established by the FIAP Board of Directors. It gathers medical professionals from 18 countries, with participants from more new nations joining every day.

“We are both medical workers and photographers,” he shared. Creators often capture touching moments of life in hospital corridors or after late-night shifts with their cameras. “Healthcare relies on spotting what others overlook, and the same applies to photography. Both demand patience, concentration and courage.” Each photograph visually showcases the global medical community’s spirit of safeguarding human health and cherishing every life.

On behalf of the university, Vice President Li Zhihong accepted the donation and extended sincere gratitude to FIAP and IMPC. “We will fully integrate these photographs into medical students’ daily study and life. Following the core creative philosophy behind these works, we hope students can perceive patience, concentration and courage from the visuals,” he remarked.

Vice President Li added that these artworks will help medical students gain deeper understanding of their profession from an artistic perspective. While sharpening their professional expertise, students can cultivate humanistic and artistic accomplishment, growing into outstanding physicians equipped with both scientific rigor and humanistic compassion.

Riccardo Busi, President of FIAP, confirmed that all exhibited medical photographs will be officially transferred to Xiangya School of Medicine upon the conclusion of the congress exhibition. He stated that strengthening ties and cooperation with medical schools and hospitals across the globe lies at the heart of promoting exchanges in medical photography.
