Yale-China Association Visits Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University

On the morning of September 26, President John Frisbie, accompanied by Junya Zhu, Director of Health Programs, and Andrew Junker, Director of the Hong Kong Office, from the Yale-China Association, visited Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University. The two parties held a discussion at the main campus of Central South University. Executive Vice President Chen Xiang, Vice President Li Zhihong, and officials from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges,Xiangya School of Medicine,Xiangya Hospital, Xiangya Third Hospital, Xiangya School of Public Health, and Xiangya School of Nursing attended the meeting. Vice President Li Zhihong chaired the session.

Chen Xiang expressed gratitude for the longstanding support and assistance provided by the Yale-China Association. He highlighted the collaborative efforts in establishing some of China's earliest Western medical hospitals and theXiangya Medical College (predecessor of Xiangya School of Medicine)over a century ago. These efforts have continued with joint initiatives such as medical student exchange programs, the Chia Family Foundation Health Fellowship Program, andXiangxi Local Health Service Improvement Program. President John Frisbie's visitis set to inject fresh energy intothe century-old friendship and expand collaboration in fields such as medicine, healthcare, teaching, and research.

John Frisbie thanked Xiangya for its support in advancing the partnership between the two institutions. He expressed the desire to further strengthen the collaborative achievements and explore new areas of cooperation. As a non-governmental organization, the Yale-China Association aims to act as a bridge for people-to-people exchanges between China and the United States. The enduring history of collaboration between Xiangya and Yale-China will surely inspire confidence and open new pathways for cultural and educational cooperation between China and the United States.

Before the discussion, President John Frisbie and his delegation visited the Xiangya School of Medicine'sHistory Museum, where he remarked, "To all of Yale-Chinese friends of xiangya, I am so moved to visit in person and see the wonderful medical school campus and exhibition of our long and successful partnership! We will continue to work together.”

Established in 1901, the Yale-China Association has been dedicated to promoting medical education, healthcare development, and cultural exchanges between China and the United States. The visit by the Yale-China Association is set to create new opportunities for expanding cooperation and continuing the legacy of friendship between the two institutions.
