Spring Semester Training Workshop on Evaluation of Undergraduate Courses in Medical Fields Successfully Convened

On the morning of March 8th, 2024, the Xiangya School of Medicine of Central South University held a training workshop for evaluating undergraduate courses in medical fields for the spring semester. The meeting was attended by deans of various schools (affiliated hospitals), directors of departments (teaching and research offices), coordinators responsible for course evaluations, key faculty members, all academic supervisors of medical groups, and relevant staff from the Medical Education Office. The session was chaired by Ms. Chen Lianying from the Medical Education Office.

The workshop featured presentations by three evaluation experts. Professor Chen Hanchun delivered a lecture on the "Implementation Measures for Evaluating Undergraduate Courses in Medical Fields at Central South University," focusing on evaluation structures, responsibilities, methods, procedures, results, and applications. Professor Liu Yanping elaborated on the "Standards and Focus of Course Evaluation in Medical Courses at Central South University," providing detailed insights into quality standards, evaluation methods, key areas of supervisor attention during observations and evaluations, common issues in teaching material preparation, and basic requirements and strategies for material development. Professor Luo Yiming discussed the "Preparation and Implementation of Course Syllabi," covering key aspects of syllabus preparation, evaluation criteria for discussion and practical classes, and recommendations for exam assessment improvements.

The experts supplemented their presentations with targeted explanations based on issues identified during course evaluation and supervision activities, enhancing the practicality and effectiveness of the training.

The workshop also included sharing sessions by outstanding course coordinators, including Professor Xiang from the Physiology course and Professor Wang Xiaosheng from the Anatomy course. Professor Xiang introduced the distinctive features, teaching preparation, syllabus development, content, design, and assessment methods of the Physiology course, serving as a valuable demonstration for other courses under evaluation. Professor Wang provided detailed insights into exam design and paper analysis practices for the Anatomy course, covering experiences in exam design, commonly used parameters and data acquisition for paper analysis, practical experiences in paper analysis, and reflections and suggestions.

Following the presentations, evaluation experts, course coordinators, and key faculty engaged in discussions and interactive exchanges on key issues related to course evaluation, fostering a lively atmosphere of exchange.

Courses serve as the primary arena for talent cultivation, and course evaluation is a crucial means of promoting teaching reform and ensuring the quality of talent development. This training workshop provided a platform for comprehensive exchange and learning, setting a solid foundation for the commencement of course evaluation work in the new semester and contributing to the preparations for the undergraduate education and teaching assessment and evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Education.
