On August 23-24, the 10th National Undergraduate Basic Medical Innovation Research and Experimental Design Forum took place at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou. The event was jointly organized by the Basic Medical Group of the National Demonstration Center for Experimental Education in Higher Education Institutions and the Collaborative Education Working Group for Basic Medical Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Central South University sent 11 teams to the competition, and they excelled, standing out from 878 finalist projects. The teams brought home 7 Gold Awards, 3 Silver Awards, and 1 Bronze Award. In addition, they won the Best Academic Award, Best Team Award, and Best Style Award. Central South University was also honored with the “Excellent Organization Award” and the “Outstanding Contribution Unit for Innovative Talent Cultivation” for its achievements over the past nine sessions. Professor Qin Xiaoqun from the School of Basic Medical Sciences was recognized with the “Excellence Contribution Award”. This year, the university made a significant breakthrough by winning its first Gold Award in a non-basic clinical track.

This competition has been ongoing since November 2023, with the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Office and Xiangya School of Medicine providing strong support and attention. The School of Basic Medical Sciences took the lead, collaborating with the Xiangya School of Public Health, Xiangya School of Stomatology, Xiangya School of Pharmacy, and three affiliated hospitals to meticulously plan and organize the event. After multiple rounds of university-level competitions, selection contests, regional heats, and extensive training, 11 teams emerged as national finalists. With the dedicated guidance and support of their mentors and judges, the students rigorously refined their projects, showcasing their strong theoretical knowledge, outstanding innovation, and excellent teamwork to achieve impressive results in the finals.
This forum is a significant event for displaying and exchanging the innovative research and experimental design skills of undergraduate students in basic medicine across the country. It plays a vital role in nurturing high-caliber, innovative talents with strong practical skills and creative thinking. Throughout the competition, many undergraduates with exceptional innovative abilities stood out, fully reflecting the university's spirit of unity and progress and its solid achievements in talent cultivation.
