On the morning of June 20, a symposium was held at Xinglin Campus of Central South University. Hosted by Li Xuejun, Vice Dean of Xiangya School of Medicine, the session opened with a comprehensive introduction to Xiangya School of Medicine, Xiangya Hospital and its Department of Neurosurgery, showcasing Xiangya’s solid foundation in medical education, clinical practice and research innovation. Professor Gunnar Ronquist presented technologies for cancer diagnosis and treatment, and shared cutting-edge findings and valuable experience from his team’s cancer research. Frederic Telander, Chairman of the Ambusol Board of Directors, and Holger Ronquist, Senior International Business Consultant, put forward constructive proposals for future bilateral cooperation.

On the morning of June 21, the delegation was invited to attend the 2nd Huxiang Forum on Pediatric Brain Health Management & 2025 Annual Conference of the Pediatric Brain Health Management Committee under Hunan Health Service Industry Association, where Professor Gunnar Ronquist delivered a keynote speech.

During the visit, the delegation toured the Xiangya in Classics Exhibition Hall at Kaifu Campus, Furong Laboratory, the Red Building of Xiangya Hospital, the Advanced Research Center of Central South University, and the Hunan International Innovation Cooperation Base for Brain Tumors. They gained an in-depth understanding of Xiangya’s century-long medical heritage and state-of-the-art research achievements.

An outstanding authority in cancer research, Professor Gunnar Ronquist boasts profound academic attainments particularly in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). He has published more than 220 medical papers and earned wide recognition as a top researcher at home and abroad. His research provides vital theoretical support for pathological cancer diagnosis and technology translation. This visit has laid a solid foundation for collaboration between Xiangya School of Medicine and Sweden’s top research teams in precision diagnosis of GBM and cross-border medical innovation.
Central South University has vigorously pushed forward its internationalization strategy in recent years. Taking this exchange as a new starting point, both sides plan to further expand cooperation in medical education and clinical technologies via platforms including young scholar exchange programs and joint laboratories, to jointly tackle global health challenges.
